Spotlight On: Mode Cosmetics #10331 Blackjack

Blackjack is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is a jet black. I had the shits in a serious way with this one! My usual routine is to paint my nails at night, apply a quick-dry top coat, and go to bed shortly after. I go to sleep with my hands hanging out, so that by the time I move my nails have dried enough to not be effected by sheets and blankets. Up until now, this method has worked perfectly, and then came along Blackjack... The first morning I woke up to fingerprints in my polish, a little annoying, but I figured it was bound to happen sooner or later! So take-two the second night, and wake up to more fingerprints and dings! Grrrrr! Peeved! I left nothing to chance when it was third time lucky! I painted, cleaned up and swatched them straight away! lol. So, the lesson learned here is that Blackjack is a thick, slow drying shade. I only needed two coats to get an even coverage. The result is great, but make sure you give your nails plenty of time to dry to avoid irritation! :)

Cheeky Cherry is a recently discontinued Mode Cosmetics shade and is a rich burgundy red with a creme finish. Easy to apply, but I found three coats to be necessary for a deep colour and even coverage. Overall, a great colour well worth trying!

Chocolate Fudge is a recently discontinue Mode Cosmetics shade and it is truly a rich chocolate creme! At one point of application I was tempted to lick my fingers! lol Personally not a huge fan of browns, but on the right person, a great shade! Easy to apply, I found three coats was better than two, but overall a chocoholics dream!

Nail art: Seeing as though Easter is only a couple of weeks away, I went with an Easter Egg theme! Allow nail enamel to dry before applying stripper polish. I used L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer to achieve this look. I began with two zigzag lines with NA925 Limon, and then added some dots with NA931 Flamingo and NA923 Lavender.

Well, ladies this ends on a flat note... No luck finding the last three discontinued shades! 274 Victorian stores - and still NOTHING!!! Can you believe it!? Flamingo is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and it is HOT HOT HOT! A fantastic hot pink that is so bright and demands attention to the point where I can't stop admiring it on my hands! An iridescent shade with a shimmering blue undertone. A little deeper than the pictures portray. Two coats is plenty for even coverage and vivid colour! Another Mode favorite - I just LOVE this one!

Flamingo is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is a gorgeous lolly pink. This shade is an iridescent polish with a blue-purple shimmer. I couldn't quite capture it's true beauty in the photographs, but you get an idea of the base colour. This polish was easy to work with, has great pigmentation and even coating. Two coats is usually all you need (though I did apply a light third coat for good measure this time) for all that shimmering glory! One of my favorites from Mode for sure!

Coral is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is an attractive pink-orange creme shade. I'm tempted to call it watermelon, but I think it has a little too much orange in it to be a correct description! I have to be honest here ladies, this shade is very difficult to work with, as it is very thin and runny. I found that I needed 4 coats to achieve the desired opacity. However, having said that, if you have the patience for it, the end result is stunning! I know it won't be the last time I wear it!

Nail art: Allow nail enamel to dry before applying stripper polish. I used L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer to achieve this look. I began with random strokes in all directions with NA917 Yellow, once it had dried, I added a few strokes in NA927 Poppin' Pink, and once that had dried added a further stroke or two with Yellow, to enhance the layered look.

Spotlight On: Mode Cosmetics #10325 Red Velvet

Red Velvet is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is a fabulous deep red with a hint of burgundy. I had a hard time capturing the true colour of this polish, as my camera honed in on the red and the burgundy got a little lost - so the actual shade is a bit deeper than the images portray. The sunlight picks up a subtle shimmer, which adds to the pearl finish. Very easy to apply, two coats offers fantastic pigmentation. An all-round winner!

Nail art: I used Color Club's Art Club Nail Art Lacquer to create this look. Lacquer colours used are NA48 Black Hologram (also referred to as 05C048) and NA25 Hologram Glitter (also referred to as 05C025.) Allow nail enamel to dry before applying stripper polish. Starting in one corner, paint a diagonal line across the nail first, and once that has dried, paint another line directly next to it in the second colour, once that has dried paint another line with the first colour, and so on, until you have striped half of the nail in alternate colours! Pretty easy!

Spotlight On: Mode Cosmetics #10324 Desert Flame

Unfortunately I am unable to swatch #10322 - Soft Chilli and #10323 - Copper for you at this time, as both shades are discontinued, and I have not been able to find them anywhere - but I won't be giving up! If or when I find them in the future I will definitely be showing you all my excitement!


Desert Flame is a discontinued shade of the Mode Cosmetics collection, so if you like what you see and happen to find one - be sure to snap it up! Of the 20 discontinued shades, this one was nearly impossible to find. One of those shades that are difficult to define, I would describe it mostly as a pinky copper, but on some angles it has a more earthy rust colour to it. The polish has an almost glittery shimmer when it catches the sunlight, as you can see in the picture below. A little difficult to apply as you have to be very careful of unsightly brush strokes, but otherwise good consistency and pigmentation. I think this is a great colour that shouldn't have been discontinued!

Nail art: I used Crystallized Swarovski Flat Backs. These ones are Foiled Xilion Rose (2028/ss5.) Colour: 362 Light Peach. Set into wet nail polish and apply top coat. Voila!

Fresh Melon is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is a classic shade of mid-pink with a subtle glittery shimmer. Easy to apply - just be a little careful that you achieve an even coverage without streaks in the polish. Great pigmentation with two coats!

Cerise is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is what I affectionately call slut red! (My Mother of all people taught me that lovely term... lol!) It is a deep cherry red with a subtle shimmer that commands attention! Two coats gives you rich pigmentation, and an absolute breeze to apply. One of my favorites for sure, and I promise it would be one of yours too!

Nail art: I used Color Club's Art Club Nail Art Lacquer to create this look. First layer is NA02 Black (also referred to as 05C002) and the second layer is NA18 Crystal Glitter (also referred to as 05C018.) Allow nail enamel to dry before applying stripper polish. Starting in the bottom corner, sweep first lacquer shade "diagonally" across nail, then follow with two further strokes on either side of the first. When dry, apply the second lacquer shade in the same fashion, taking care not to completely cover the first layer. I find this style works best when the second layer is a glitter, or a lighter shade than the first.

Spotlight On: Mode Cosmetics #10319 Summer Sunset

Summer Sunset is a discontinued shade of the Mode Cosmetics collection, so if you like what you see and happen to find one - be sure to snap it up! Of the 20 discontinued shades, this one was nearly impossible to find. So far, I have only managed to find one, lonely bottle! I have no idea why they discontinued this shade, as I think it is a lovely colour, and very easy to work with. Two coats gave me a rich, streak free pigmentation that I was very pleased with. The colour is a dusty, rose pink, with a pretty pearl finish. Very disappointing that this shade is so damn hard to come by though!

Unfortunately I am not able to offer a bottle of this shade for swap or sale at this stage, because I have not managed to find more bottles. I am continuing to hunt for it, but I'm not sure how lucky I'll be in my search! Fingers crossed! I'll be sure to announce it if a bottle becomes available, so stay tuned!

Spotlight On: Mode Cosmetics #10318 Rose Pink

Rose Pink has recently been discontinued from the regular range of Mode Cosmetics nail polishes, so there are still plenty floating around, but don't expect this to last too long! A pink half-way from hot pink to soft pink, it is a great colour if you want your nails to stand out, but not scream from the hill tops! Rose Pink truly is an apt name for this polish, as you certainly do see many roses of this shade growing in peoples gardens - mine included! Very easy to work with, streak free pearl finish - not sure why they decided to discontinue this one, as in my opinion it's a winner!

Pink Sparkle is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is a light, fairy floss pink. It has a pearl finish with a very subtle glittery sparkle that you can see when light catches the polish. This is one of the thinner polishes that I feel requires three coats to get a better coverage, but I didn't find it to be streaky or runny, so it was easy to work with. A cute colour that I can't go past!

Treasure Hunt - Mode Cosmetics Enamel - Pt.4

It has been a while since I last updated you guys on my lengthy search. After calling a whopping 170 Victorian stockists, and another full day of driving to some stores I am beginning to feel rather disheartened! I have 104 stockists left on my list - so I'm well over half way and am yet to locate 3 of the shades that I am looking for. They simply do not want to be found! Fingers crossed that they surface over the next week or so! Wish me luck! :)

Spotlight On: Mode Cosmetics #10316 Silk Champagne

Silk Champagne is part of the current Mode Cosmetics collection and is a pretty, classic shade of baby pink. A sheer polish that shows the white tip of your nails when one or two coats are applied, but I prefer the thicker three coats which is what is swatched for you. Three coats gives a pearl appearance with only a hint of the white tip. An easy polish to work with, but you do need to give it a little time in between coats to avoid running and unsightly build up around the cuticles. No streaks, great colour, I'm happy!
